CSNE/DO-IT Summer Study Event

On July 25, the CSNE hosted another event with the DO-IT program.  The video below shows Dr. Lise Johnson, CSNE Education Manager, demonstrating the "P300" spelling device for the DO-IT students.  Ms. Laura Tyler, a CSNE Research Experience for Teachers participant, is wearing the EEG cap.

Broadening the Representation of Academic Investigators in Neurosciences

"BRAINS: Broadening the Representation of Academic Investigators in NeuroSciences" is a national program to accelerate and improve the career advancement of neuroscience postdoctoral researchers and assistant professors from underrepresented groups. BRAINS is a new program created with funding from NINDS, and is now actively recruiting applicants for the first national symposium. Applications will be accepted July 1, 2012 through August 15, 2012.

Jaideep Mavoori Seminar - Online

Dr. Jaideep Mavoori (Senior Research Scientist, Neurovista) visited the CSNE on July 11 and presented a seminar "Bits, Bugs and Brains."  This seminar is now online (see below).

Graduate Student Exchange

Mr. Yuki Ishikawa arrived in Seattle to become the first graduate student to participate in the CSNE exchange program.  Mr. Ishikawa is currently a graduate student at the University of Tokyo (Department of Precision Engineering, School of Engineering) working in the laboratory of Professor Hajima Asama.  Yuki will spend the summer at the University of Washington in the laboratory of Dr. Blake Hannaford.

Research Experience for Teachers Program Starts

The 2012 summer Research Experience for Teachers program started this week.  Two teachers, one from Washington Middle School and the other from South Shore School, will spend six weeks in a CSNE research lab and then work for one additional week to translate their work into curricular materials that they can use with their students.
