UW/SDSU Meeting

CSNE personnel from the University of Washington (UW) recently traveled to San Diego State University (SDSU) where they had an opportunity to meet with students, tour research labs, and talk to industry liaisons. CSNE deputy director, Tom Daniel, gave a seminar which was well attended and led to several conversations about potential collaborations between the UW and SDSU. The chance to meet with students from SDSU and Southwestern College (SWC) proved to be the highlight of the trip for the UW staff.

RRF Award Opportunity

The University of Washington has announced the Spring 2012 round of the Royalty Research Fund (RRF). Proposals are due Monday, March 5, by 5:00 PM. Awards will be announced by June 15, 2012.

Unlike agency-funded grants, RRF grants are not awarded to supplement or continue existing successful research programs. The purpose of the Royalty Research Fund (RRF) is to advance new directions in research, particularly:

1. In disciplines for which external funding opportunities are minimal, and/or

2. For faculty who are junior in rank, and/or

Trainee Positions Available

The University of Washington has four openings in its NIH Institutional Grant for Neurobiology (T32 GM007108-38).  One position will be available starting on July 1, 2012 and the three other positions will be available starting on Sept. 16, 2012.  The application form is available on the Training Grant website.
 

Prestigious Award to Prof. Lee

 Prof. Adrian KC Lee, CSNE faculty member and part of University of Washington's Speech & Hearing Sciences, Institute for Learning and Brain Sciences, and adjunct Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering, recently received a prestigious Air Force Office of Scientific Research Young Investigator Research Award. This award is for new researchers who show exceptional ability and promise for conducting basic research. Prof.

Penn Fellowships in Neuroscience & Society

The Center for Neuroscience & Society at the University of Pennsylvania is now accepting applications for early-career neuroscientists to participate in this summer's Penn Fellowships in Neuroscience & Society.  Applications are due February 24, 2012.

Business Plan Competition Resource Nights

The UW Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship is sponsoring weekly Business Plan Competition Resource Nights for students and the general public to learn the essentials of business planning from local entrepreneurs.
