New Paper

NIH Undergraduate Design Challenge

The National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIH) has announced a competition for undergraduate students to foster the design and development of innovative diagnostic and therapeutic devices, and technologies to aid underserved populations and the disabled.  The "Design by Biomedical Undergraduate Teams (DEBUT) Challenge" is part of NIBIB's efforts to build, strengthen, and prepare the future workforce of biomedical engineers.

ERC Kick-Off Meeting

The ERC "Kick-Off" meeting was held on November 8, 2011, in the new CSNE headquarters in Russell Hall.  Although construction in Russell Hall was not yet completed, the meeting was able to go on in the conference hall and "Discovery Pod" areas.  NSF personnel provided CSNE faculty, students and staff with an overview of the ERC and guidance about how to proceed over the next five years.  The meeting concluded with lab demonstrations (see photos below) and a dinner at the Portage Bay Cafe.

Report: A Roadmap for US Robotics

The 2009 publication, "A Roadmap for US Robotics.  From Internet to Robotics"  is available online.  Especially noteworthy to the CSNE is Chapter 2 of this report titled "A Research Roadmap for Medical and Healthcare Robotics."

New MEG Course

Dr. Adrian KC Lee, assistant professor in the UW Department of Speech & Hearing Sciences and CSNE faculty member, will teach a new course to introduce students to magnetoencephalography (MEG) during the winter quarter.

New URL for CSNE

The CSNE web site has a new URL:  http://www.csne-erc.org.  URLs that were used previously will all be forwarded to new URLs automatically.

New Non-major Neuroscience Course

University of Washington Department of Biology and CSNE faculty member Dr. Michael Dickinson will team with Dr. David Perkel to teach a new undergraduate course in neuroscience for non-majors.  Details of this new four-credit introductory neuroscience course are described in the November 1, 2011, issue of The Daily.
