Sowing the Seeds of Neuroscience

The National Institutes of Health issued a press release to announce the funding of eight projects across the United States to develop innovative neuroscience education programs for K-12 students and their teachers.  These grants are funded by the NIH Blueprint for Neuroscience Research Science Education Award and the Science Education Partnership Award.  

Mary Gates Undergraduate Research Scholarships

University of Washington undergraduate students working in CSNE laboratories are encouraged to apply for Mary Gates Research Scholarships.   These prestigious scholarships award students $4,000 in installments of $2,000 each over two quarters.  The fall deadline for applications is October 21 at 5:00 p.m.   The Mary Gate Research Scholarship web site has additional information to help students and mentors develop a successful application.

Dr. Andrew Williams at STEM Conference

CSNE Education Manager Hired

lise johnsonDr. Lise Johnson has been hired as the CSNE Education Manager.  Dr. Johnson received her BS degree (Physics) from the University of Oklahoma and her PhD (Biomedical Engineering) from the University of Arizona.  She is currently a post-doctoral researcher in the laboratory of Dr.

UW Computational Neuroscience Training Program

The new University of Washington Computational Neuroscience Training Program web site is now active.  Visit the web site to learn about research opportunities, seminars and courses in the exciting field of computational neuroscience.

CSNE Construction Begins

Construction of CSNE headquarters in Russell Hall (1414 NE 42nd St., Seattle, WA) has begun!  The beautiful new space (see below) was designed by ZGF Architects.  CSNE staff will take occupany of the new headquarters during the first or second week of November, 2011.

CSNE Awards Grants

The Center for Sensorimotor Neural Engineering (UW site) received many excellent applications in response to the first Call for Proposals.  Based on the recommendations of the review committee, the CSNE will support the following projects:

Postdoctoral Research Fellowships in Biology

The National Science Foundation Postdoctoral Research Fellowships in Biology program provides funding to encourage independence of scientists at an early stage of their research careers to pursue their research and training goals.  In 2012, fellowships will be offered in 1) Broadening Participation in Biology; 2) Intersections of Biology and Mathematical and Physical Sciences; and 3) National Plant Genome Initiative Postdoctoral Research Fellowships.  Full pr

Collaborative Research Travel Grants program

The Burroughs Wellcome Fund's Collaborative Research Travel Grants program will provide up to $15,000 in support for Ph.D. candidates, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty researchers to travel either domestically or internationally to a laboratory to acquire a new research technique, to facilitate a collaboration, or to attend a laboratory/lecture course.
