CSNE Special Seminar
The CSNE will sponsor a special seminar titled “NINDS Accelerates Therapeutic and Device Discovery & Development” by Rajesh Ranganathan, Ph.D., Director, Office of Translational Research, National Institute for Neurological Disorders and Stroke, National Institutes of Health.
The Office of Translational Research at the National Institutes for Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) currently has five funding programs that aim to provide a breadth of opportunities for academic investigators and small businesses to engage in the spectrum of work, beginning with assay development through to initial test of clinical candidate in human trials. The talk will describe in brief these five programs: Anti-convulsant screening program (ASP), Counter Agents against chemical threats (CounterACT), Blueprint Neurotherapeutics (a virtual pharma networks, the Small Business Innovation Research Program, and the Cooperative Translational Research Program (a milestone-driven funding mechanism). The emerging focus of the NINDS OTR office is to ensure therapeutic development is partnered with the development of mechanistic biomarkers and deeper understanding of the mechanism of action of the therapeutic candidate. The office expects to encourage work on diseases that do not have predictive animal models, explore the use phase 0 trials via exploratory Investigational New Drug (eIND) route, and a greater use of imaging to inform target engagement in the clinic.
