Date Title Summary
2017-07-19 CSNE Women's Career Mentoring Lunch with Dr. Margie Byers

1414 NE 42nd St., Suite 204
Seattle, WA 98105
Wednesday, July 19, 2017, 12 - 1 p.m. PDT

This event is part of a series that is designed to connect CSNE students, post-docs and faculty with women who have built successful careers in neural engineering. Each event will feature a different established scientist/engineer who will talk about her career path and the benefits and challenges of her position. We hope that this forum for informal mentoring will promote networking and encourage women to consider a variety of career options within the field of neural engineering.

Margie Byers, Professor emeritus in the UW School of Medicine:
My research program focuses on the neurobiology of peripheral sensory nerve fibers, especially those that cause pain. Much of our work concerns sensory functions in normal tissues, and neural interactions with inflammation wound healing, anesthetics and other clinical treatments. In addition we study the development of teeth and their innervation, as well as immune capabilities of tooth pulp cells and pulp/nerve interactions. I have recently shifted to the Emeritus faculty, but continue to maintain a fully active laboratory in the Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine Department.
